Gomes Praises Mayor For Olympic Initiative

City Council President Brian Gomes is commending Mayor Jon Mitchell for taking the initiative, and seeking to have New Bedford be a part of the 2024 Olympics.

The Mayor named a Steering Committee this week to work with the "Boston 2024" group to locate an Olympic sailing event on Buzzards Bay.

Gomes says having the event based in New Bedford and taking place on Buzzards Bay would give people from all over the world the chance to experience the city's history, culture and beauty.

Gomes says he'd like to speak with the Mayor about what role the City Council could play in the planning process.
