Giant Pumpkins Showcased at Free Family Event

Farmers from all over New England have been growing their pumpkins to near-record size for months. Now you can watch them get weighed at this free family event at Frerichs Farm in Warren, Rhode Island.

The annual Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh-Off is happening on Saturday, October 12. This is a fun, family day at the farm where kids and adults can be amazed by these massive gourds and see just how big this season's pumpkins got.

Last year, the winner was over 1,900 pounds! Maybe this year's winner will top that weight.

In addition to watching the weigh-off, people can enjoy a free corn maze, a pirate ship and western town for the kids to climb on, pumpkin painting, build your own scarecrow activities and more.

Admission to the event itself is free, though some of the activities have a small cost and it is $5 to park at the farm.

There are also food trucks on-site and art vendors, making it a full day of fall fun.

The first rain date will be Sunday, October 13. If it rains on that Sunday, they will have it on Monday, October 14, rain or shine.
