The Mass. Gaming Commission has again delayed action on a casino license for Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Commission voted on Thursday to extend the deadline for accepting applications to February 1st, in the interest of increased competition.

The panel also received an e-mail from the attorney for the City of New Bedford, stating one of the city's potential sites for casino development is city-owned, and officials needed more time to carry out a public bidding process and negotiations with a developer.  That city-owned site is apparently the Whaling City Golf Course off Hathaway Road.

Mayor Jon Mitchell has previously confirmed that he's spoken with several casino developers. The Standard Times reported in May that one of those developers has been Foxwoods.
