The City of New Bedford has secured just over $5 million in state funding to extend the Harborwalk Project along another section of the hurricane dike.

Phase two will happen on the Clark's Cove portion of the barrier. Design work has already been completed for the project.

The city completed work last fall on a 3,400 foot pathway along East Rodney French Boulevard. Phase two will extend the recreational pathway an additional 4,800 feet along the Clark's Cove portion of the barrier on the west side of the peninsula.

In a statement, Mayor Jon Mitchell thanked the Baker-Polito administration for supporting the project. The Mayor also thanked Senator Mark Montigny and Rep. Antonio Cabral for their support on Beacon Hill.
