Fugitive Wanted by U.S. Marshalls Apprehended by Wareham Police
WAREHAM — A fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshalls has been apprehended by Wareham Police after an intoxicated New Bedford woman who was driving him caused a car accident.
Wareham Police say officers responded to a crash on Cranberry Highway near I-195 at approximately 6:41 p.m. Sunday night. Upon arrival, it was noted that the driver, 32-year-old Carolina Chumack, of New Bedford, appeared impaired and placed her under arrest.
Officers then discovered that her passenger, 42-year-old Orlando Ortiz, of Boston, was a fugitive wanted by the United States Marshall’s Service with a note to use extreme caution due to his past firearms charges. He was taken into custody without incident.
Chumack is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violation, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
