Free Meals for SouthCoast Kids [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
YMCA Southcoast is part of a partnership distributing free meals to young people under the age of 18. YMCAs in New Bedford, Fall River and Wareham are serving as food distribution sites. The program began in late January, and is expected to last until August.
The food distribution plan was created in coordination with the Shah Family Foundation and the Greater Boston YMCA. The group identified Fall River, New Bedford and Wareham as communities where households were at higher risk of experiencing food insecurity during the pandemic.
Bonetown Burgers and BBQ, a food truck company out of Boston and Cranston, is handling the distribution chores, providing fresh, ready-made boxed meals. There is no appointment needed. Meals are available, first-come, first-served.
Debbie Fringuelli, Senior Executive Director of the Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham, spoke with Townsquare Sunday this week about how the program is working so far, and what days the food is available at each location. Her interview can be heard here:
Townsquare Sunday is a public affairs program heard every Sunday at 6 a.m. on 1420 WBSM. The program highlights organizations and individuals working to improve the quality of life on the SouthCoast.
