Free COVID Testing For Fisherman Continues in New Bedford

The Southcoast Health Wellness Van will be parked at Pier 3 in New Bedford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for three consecutive Thursdays in December and offering free coronavirus testing and flu shots for members of the fishing community.

Fishermen, family members of fishermen, and other fishing industry shore and dockside workers are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 and to get immunized against the flu, all free of charge. Out-of-state fishermen may also participate.

Signing up in advance is optional, and walk-ups are fine. Those who wish to schedule an individual test or tests for an entire crew are encouraged to call Shelly Miranda at the Port of New Bedford at (508) 961-3000. She can also be reached via email at shelly.miranda@newbedford-ma.gov.

The health program is being sponsored by players in the offshore wind industry in conjunction with the Port of New Bedford and Southcoast Health. Organizers say COVID-19 test results are returned in approximately 24-48 hours.
