Foxboro's Gillette Stadium Won't Host a Super Bowl Anytime Soon

Any hopes of strutting down Route 1 in Foxboro to see a Super Bowl game anytime soon have been dashed.

The National Football League has eliminated the home of the New England Patriots, Gillette Stadium, from Super Bowl contention – at least for the foreseeable future.

The American Football Conference and the National Football Conference Champions for the current football season will play Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona February 12, 2023.

The NFL has selected Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, to host Super Bowl LVIII on February 10, 2024, and Super Bowl LIX will be played on February 9, 2025, at Ceasar's Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

According to NBC Sports, "State Farm Stadium last hosted the Super Bowl in 2015 and was the site of the famous Malcolm Butler interception that sealed the New England Patriots' fourth title."

It will be the first time Allegiant Stadium, which opened in 2020, will host a Super Bowl game.

Gillette Stadium, with a seating capacity of 65,878, opened in May 2002. The stadium gets a rap for being a small stadium. Ceasar's Superdome holds 74,295 fans, and State Farm Stadium can fit 73,000 people, but Allegiant Stadium has room for only 65,000 – less than Gillette.

The other stadiums have domes to protect players and fans from the elements. Gillette is not a domed stadium and Foxboro weather in February can be a bit nippy.

San Francisco's Levi Stadium is rumored to be the site of the 2026 Super Bowl, but that has yet to be confirmed.
