Four New Bedford Businesses Awarded Workforce Training Grants
BOSTON — State Representative Antonio F.D. Cabral (D-New Bedford) announced today state grant awards to four New Bedford-based businesses, through the Workforce Training Fund Program.
The program is administered by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
The businesses, respective award amounts and job creation predictions are outlined below:
--Acushnet Company received $224,635 to train 187 workers and is anticipating the creation of 20 new jobs by 2020.
--Five Star Surgical received $15,946 to train 8 workers and is anticipating the creation of 3 new jobs by 2020.
--HTP Comfort Solutions received $203,450 to train 86 workers and is anticipating the creation of 6 new jobs by 2020.
--Morgan Advanced Materials received $132,240 to train 48 workers and is anticipating the creation of 2 new jobs by 2020.
“When businesses reinvest in their employees, entire communities benefit,” said Rep. Cabral. “These workforce training grants will enable these New Bedford businesses to expand and increase productivity, all while creating new job opportunities for South Coast residents.”
The Workforce Training Fund General Program is a state-wide initiative that aims to infuse resources into the Commonwealth’s workforce to ensure the state’s economic stability. The program is funded by employers who contribute to unemployment insurance and employers who pay into the fund itself.
