Four Hospitalized, One Arrested After Drugged Driving Crash on Acushnet Avenue
NEW BEDFORD - Four people were hospitalized after New Bedford Police say a man, high on drugs, crashed his vehicle into a parked car.
New Bedford Police say at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday police responded to the accident near 4275 Acushnet Avenue. Preliminary investigation shows that a car headed north on Acushnet Avenue, driven by Christopher Rebeiro, 25, of Assonet, was approaching Tobey Street when it veered into the breakdown lane and struck a vehicle carrying two people that had pulled over.
As a result of the impact, the vehicle that had pulled over was forced about 233 feet north before striking a tree. The occupants of that vehicle, a 59-year-old female driver and her 24-year-old son, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to St. Luke's Hospital.
Rebeiro and a passenger in his car were also transported to St. Luke's for minor injuries.
Police determined Rebeiro was under the influence of drugs during the crash. Rebeiro was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
