Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Featured on Ghost Hunters This Wednesday
New Bedford once again takes center stage on national television this Wednesday night, August 31.
No, Hillary Clinton isn’t going to name-drop the Whaling City for a second time…New Bedford will actually be featured on SyFy’s Ghost Hunters program, airing at 9 p.m. EST, as the team from The Atlantic Paranormal Society investigates Fort Rodman-Fort Taber State Park.
TAPS actually filmed the episode last summer, and it’s airing now as part of the 11th (and final) season of the long-running hit series that debuted in 2004.
The episode will see the TAPS crew investigating numerous structures around the park, including Fort Rodman, the Military Museum, and especially Battery Milliken. That’s the site where I’ve had one of my most profound paranormal experiences, which you can read about (and hear the audio evidence) here.
Fort Taber is one of my favorite spots to investigate, and we’ve held numerous events there over the years through both the Spooky Southcoast radio show as well as our events company Legend Trips. It’s always great to have the chance to document the paranormal activity there, while also helping to raise money for the renovations.
I’m also really excited that they’re going to be looking for the “sparkly apparition” that I saw there when filming Jeff Belanger’s New England Legends for PBS (which has been nominated twice for an Emmy Award, by the way). It happened during a moment when Jeff and his two-man production team were off in another section of the battery, and myself and two other people were staring down the long hall of Milliken. Despite being a bright summer day outside, it was pitch dark in the battery, and we saw this figure standing at the other end of the hall staring at us; the only way I can describe him is that he appeared to be a black shadow figure comprised of shiny starlights, like Peter Gabriel at the end of the “Sledgehammer” video.
Spooky Southcoast’s own Stephanie Burke will also be appearing in the episode, sharing her own personal experiences at the Fort. While talking ghosts on TV has become old hat for the rest of the Spooky Crew, this is only Stephanie’s second time on national TV (her first was in a spot for The Bridgewater Triangle documentary on Destination America) so be sure to tune in, watch, and then call us this week on Spooky Southcoast to let us know what you think!
I’m also planning on live-tweeting the episode so be sure to follow me and interact there as well.
This is going to be spooktacular!
