Former Attleboro Mayor Judith Robbins was killed Monday afternoon after her car crashed into a city bus.

North Attleboro Fire Department officials tell ABC6 that it's believed Robbins suffered from cardiac arrest before the accident took place around 3 p.m.

First responders performed CPR on Robbins at the scene, and she was brought to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where she was pronounced dead.

Four other people suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and they were transported to the hospital.

Robbins served on the City Council for 16 years before becoming mayor, a position she held for 12 years, leaving office in 2003.

After leaving office Robbins became a member of the Attleboro Redevelopment Authority and served as its chairperson since 2011, with Council President Frank Cook telling ABC6 she did a " a wonderful job."

"Just really bringing the city back, and over coming a lot of the issues we had already had," said Cook.

Councilor at Large Richard Conti also had words of praise for his former colleague.

"She had the patients of Jobe, and the ferocity of a tiger, all at the same time. Judy was amazing," said Conti.

Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas told ABC6 he worked closely with Robbins and that he and his entire office is "devastated" to hear the of the sudden and unexpected loss.

The incident is being investigated.
