It's the time of year when food pantries are most heavily trafficked, and supplies are in high demand.

The PACE Emergency Food Bank is one of those programs that is in need of immediate food donations, which is why PACE has teamed up with the New Bedford Free Public Libraries to once again run the "Food for Fines" program.

PACE Public Relations Manager Ginny DeSilva tells WBSM News if people bring in non-perishable food items to any city library, they have an opportunity to wipe clean any fees they may have accumulated.

DeSilva says participants just have to bring in whatever overdue materials they've kept, along with food items like pasta, canned goods, rice, and other non-perishables, and for every item donated, $1 of their fines will be dismissed.

All New Bedford library branches are participating in the program, which runs through November 28.
