An early morning fire has crippled operations at a building that houses a charitable organization and a Standard Times facility.

Acushnet Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher tells WBSM News a transformer in a small freestanding structure at 1 Titleist Drive off of Slocum Street caught fire, burning the small building to the ground and effectively cutting off power to the larger, warehouse-style building.

Chief Gallagher tells WBSM News crews are working to restore limited power to the building that is home to Gifts to Give and the Standard Times distribution center. "We're concerned with the cold weather coming; with the absence of electricity and the absence of heat, that the fire sprinkler system be contained and kept safe. That's my number one priority," said Gallagher.

Nobody was injured during the fire that was reported after 1 A.M. Wednesday morning.

Firefighters could not extinguish the blaze until power to the building had been shut off. By that time, Gallagher says, the structure had been completely destroyed.
