“Fat Shaming” Has Adverse Effects
Making people feel guilty because of their weight is actually more detrimental to their health.
A new study from University College in London says "fat shaming" does not actually encourage overweight individuals to lose the extra pounds. In fact, it may actually cause them to comfort eat. The study also says those who feel self-conscious about their weight will choose not to exercise, because they are afraid of how they will look.
Five percent of those studied say they have received poor treatment or harassment from others due to their weight.
