A Fall River city worker fired after a woman died in a public pool in June 2011 has returned to work after an arbitrator ruled he should get his job back. Roger Casavant was fired after the body of Marie Joseph was found in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Pool. Authorities say she had been at the bottom of the murky pool for two days.

Officials say Casavant inspected the pool and noted the cloudy water. He approved a permit that was not issued. He was fired in July 2011.

His lawyers say that he won his appeal in August and returned to work in September. He was also granted 13 months of pay for time he missed. They say Casavant had no jurisdiction over the state-run pool.
