Fall River Man Arrested, Gun Seized in Connection to Shots Fired Incident
FALL RIVER — A Fall River man has been arrested on a variety of charges after police pulled him over for speeding, then allegedly found him in possession of a handgun connected to a shots fired incident.
Police said 50-year-old Calvin Devoe was arrested early Saturday morning, after officers responded to a report of shots fired near Alden and Dean streets at around 1 a.m.
Witnesses reported hearing two pops apparently coming from a local establishment, and seeing a man in a construction style shirt leaving the area in a white SUV, according to police.
While en route to the call, Officer Connor Levesque saw a white SUV turn at high speed onto Pleasant Street.
Levesque pulled the SUV over — and police said as he was approaching the vehicle, he heard a radio communication detailing the description of the shots fired suspect and vehicle, which matched the SUV.
Devoe was also wearing a construction style shirt at the time he was pulled over, police said.
After the officer asked the man to get out of the vehicle, he allegedly saw a firearm magazine on the front passenger seat.
Devoe was arrested without incident, and police said they also found a Glock handgun inside the SUV.
He is charged with carrying a firearm and ammunition without a license (second offense), possessing a class B drug (subsequent offense), discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and speeding.
No injuries were reported in the shooting incident, according to police.
