FALL RIVER — A Fall River man has been arrested after police said he resisted officers who found him trying to break into a photography studio.

Fall River Police said on Dec. 28, officers were called to the scene at 161 South Main Street in Fall River for a report of a breaking and entering where they found and arrested 33 year old Joseph Costa.

Police spokesperson Lt. Gregory Wiley said that officers Marques Pires and Kristopher Sousa “gave Mr. Costa several commands to get on the ground and to place his hands behind his back,” but he did not comply.

As a result, a struggle allegedly broke out between Costa and the officers.

Police said after an officer tried to grab Costa’s arm, the suspect began to strike the officer’s hand.

The Fall River resident was hit with four charges: breaking and entering, possessing a burglarious instrument, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Police say this is not the first time Costa has been criminally charged.
