Fall River Police have arrested man in connection with a Friday evening assault of an 18-year-old woman outside the Tedeschi's on 28 East Main Street.

Lt. Neil Furtado says officers received a tip that the man shown in a surveillance photo was inside an East Main Street apartment.

When officers approached the residence the suspect, identified as 31-year-old John Berube, fled out a window but was apprehended several blocks away.

Furtado says Berube and confessed to the assault and was charged with Armed Robbery, Indecent A&B on Person Over 14, and Kidnapping.

Berube was also questioned in connection with an attempted knifepoint abduction of a 9-year-old girl on Peckham St. earlier in the day, but Berube denied any involvement in that incident.

While saying both crimes have similar MO's, including the use of a knife and a dark van, and similar suspect description Police Chief Daniel Racine says they are unable to charge anyone at this time in connection with the attempted abduction.
