Fall River Jewelry Thief Convicted With DNA Evidence
A Fall River man was convicted of a jewelry store robbery thanks to DNA evidence.
Gregg Miliote, Director of Communications for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, says that 32-year-old David Sinclair pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony and larceny from a building.
The conviction stems from a September 9, 2014 break-in at Columbia Jewelry at 60 Columbia St. in Fall River.
Officers were dispatched to the store after an alarm went off shortly before 4 a.m. and upon arrival found that the front entrance plate glass door had been shattered and three glass jewelry display cases were broken into.
Several items were found to be stolen including rings, bangles, 10 gold necklaces valued at $5,000 each, a Portuguese curb chain valued at $15,000, and a gold cross.
The total value of the jewelry was estimated to be roughly $50,000.
During the investigation a detective found a small amount of blood on the broken glass inside one of the jewelry cases.
A sample was sent to the state crime lab for analysis and it was found to match Sinclair’s DNA profile.
Following his conviction in Superior Court Miliote says Sinclair was sentenced to serve three to four years in state prison.
