FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — A pet rabbit was killed and another is in serious condition following a garage fire early this morning in Fairhaven.

According to the Fairhaven Fire Department, two engines, a ladder truck, the chief and deputy chief responded to a reported garage fire at 40 Christian Street at 3:51 a.m. on February 11.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from a single story, 15-foot-by-20-foot concrete block garage that was detached from the residence.

Spending about three hours at the scene, firefighters were able to battle back the blaze and keep it from spreading to three surrounding residences.

The office of Animal Control and the electrical inspector also responded, the fire department said in a release.

No human injuries were reported, but one pet rabbit was killed and another survived but is in serious condition.

The department said the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
