As Halloween comes to a close in 2024, one can only imagine how many sugar hangovers there are after a night of prowling for candy.

Halloween night at the Westgate residence in Fairhaven reached new heights this year, as Vanessa and Justin Westgate welcomed a record-breaking 616 trick-or-treaters, surpassing all previous years.

"We had a final count of 616 kids, but we actually ran out of candy," Vanessa said. "We had to tell a few that we were done for the night."

The couple had initially prepared 130 goody bags filled with candy and small toys, mainly for younger trick-or-treaters, but the sheer number of visitors led them to switch strategies.

"After the goody bags ran out, we started giving out a few pieces of candy per kid, and toward the end, it was just one each," Vanessa explained.

Vanessa and Justin have called this neighborhood home for six years, and they confirmed this was their busiest Halloween yet. Looking ahead to next year, Vanessa plans to stock up on even more candy.

"I will buy more next year! I'm expecting more and more kids, so I’ll try to be more prepared," she said. "It was so busy we couldn’t even go inside – we just stood outside with a table and kept going."

The Westgates’ street attracts many families thanks to its lively Halloween spirit, with several neighboring homes going all out with decorations and even "scary actors" to add to the thrill.

"We love decorating and seeing everyone’s reactions," Vanessa said. "The kids have a blast, and there’s never any trouble. We just love being part of the fun."

Fairhaven’s Halloween scene shows no signs of slowing down, and if this year was any indication, Vanessa and Justin Westgate will be back in 2025, ready for another unforgettable Halloween.
