Fairhaven Police Investigating Route 6 Crash Involving Bicyclist
FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — Fairhaven Police are investigating following a collision between a bicyclist and a car.
Police responded to a report of a crash at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at the intersection of Route 6 and Narragansett Boulevard.
Officers arrived to discover a 35-year-old Fairhaven bicyclist suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford by ambulance.
Police said the investigation suggests that the cyclist rode in front of a Dodge pickup truck traveling westbound on Route 6. The pickup truck was being driven by an off-duty Fairhaven Police officer, and it was their personal vehicle.
The driver of the truck, who was not injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
"As a matter of policy, both due to the fact that the bicyclist suffered injuries and because the crash involved an employee of the Fairhaven Police Department, the department contacted the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) to conduct an investigation," Lt. Kevin Kobza said.
