From sports leagues to education, Fairhaven and Acushnet activities overlap frequently. Now, the two towns will come together for a big, financial benefit.

Fairhaven Public Works announced a new pilot program on Wednesday that will allow the two towns to share recreational rates this summer, allowing for more affordable ways to enjoy the perks.

Fairhaven residents can access Acushnet River Valley Golf Course at a discounted resident rate by presenting a valid ID when booking a tee time.

For non-residents, a round of golf during the week will cost a golfer $50 to walk the green or $62 with a golf cart. With the new pilot program, Acushnet and Fairhaven residents can score a round of golf for $39 during the week, including the golf cart.

On the weekends, residents can take advantage of $42 to walk and $62 to ride while non-residents will pay $55 to walk and $75 to ride.

As part of the program, Acushnet residents scored the ultimate summer win.

One-hundred West Island Beach passes were issued to Acushnet residents at the resident rate, and they sold out quickly.

Beach passes are a hot commodity, and providing Acushnet with a discounted rate is a huge win for beachgoers.

“Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, and please be kind to the staff as this is our first time implementing such a program,” Fairhaven Public Works said. “Enjoy and have fun!”
