Here we go again. Another mass shooting shattered the lives of students at Umpqua Community College, their families, friends and everyone of conscience. This crazed killer has been identified and one of his motives was to kill Christians. He forced innocent people to lye down and then told them, one by one, to stand up and state their religion. He assassinated the ones who said they were Christians. Opening fire at point blank range in their head. The ones who did not identify themselves as Christians were spared by getting shot in their legs. That's a hate crime against Christians!

When the president appeared on national TV and preached angrily for more gun control laws, I silently thought that no public policy will ever prevent or stop these mass shootings. Just look at the president's home town of Chicago. Has public policy thwarted the carnage there? Laws won't stop lunatics intent on killing others.

It's tough, these days, to commit mentally ill people. Getting a judge to sign off on the paperwork, or trying to convince insurance companies to okay long term treatment is very difficult today. The insurance companies don't want to spend their money on something like that. Unfortunately, we don't have those mental institutions of yesteryear anymore. Plus, a lot of times, ill people check themselves out of treatment early. If the politicians want real change, they can start right there with legislation that makes it easier to place mentally sick people in long term government facilities with services that treat the whole person. That's the kind of preaching we need to hear about from the White House bully pulpit. Insane and evil criminals prefer unarmed victims, and delusional politicians prefer unarmed citizens. So, when I hear anyone blaming the guns, lack of reasonable gun control or the NRA for mass shootings, it's like blaming AAA for drunk drivers.
