Everything We Know About Newport Filming of The Gilded Age’s New Season
It's been nearly nine months since we first heard that HBO had approved a third season of period drama The Gilded Age.
Local fans were not only thrilled to hear that the beloved Julian Fellowes show will return to the small screen, but that the show also planned to return to Newport, Rhode Island, for filming.
After all of that waiting, we know when cast and crew should appear among the mansions along Bellevue Avenue.
There was talk of the show coming back to Newport in July, but that guess was found to be false.
Though executive producer Casey Bloys told ScreenRant that primary filming would be in June and July, that turned out to be New York filming and had nothing to do with Newport.
Perhaps it was because the Elephant Migration exhibit spent the summer on the grounds of several mansions or maybe in was all the heat and humidity Southern New England saw in July, but there was no sign of cast or crew in Rhode Island this summer.

Fall, however, is a whole other story.
According to a recent posting from Grant Wilfley Casting in New York, costume fittings are getting underway and filming is tentatively scheduled to begin in October.
Those who have been part of filming in Newport say shooting after the summer season is best for both the film crew and the city.
Often, filming shut downs several Newport mansions to tourists, which is not ideal in the summer. Plus, the late 1800s fashion isn't exactly great for hot, humid weather.

The Gilded Age will use even more of Newport than before.
In addition to the mansions and the Newport Casino, season three plans to expand upon Peggy Scott's character and the Black elite of Newport at the time. Presumably new locations for this new plotline will be needed.
Look for cast and crew to start setting up around town over the next few weeks at some of the spots below.
