The Elm Street railroad crossing will be closed to traffic this weekend.

Freetown Police Lt. Steven Abbott says that, after a series of postponements, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that the closure will begin Friday morning.

The closure will be in place from 8 a.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

During that time construction crews will be removing and replacing existing track and structure.

Lt. Abbott says police details will be in place to mitigate traffic issues but motorists are being advised to seek alternate routes.
