Authorities say a married couple has been killed in a crash with another vehicle whose driver fled the scene on foot.

A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney says the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Thursday at Route 138 and Purchase Street in Easton.

The victims were identified as 79-year-old John Masefield and 77-year-old Virginia Masefield, both of East Bridgewater.

Authorities say it appears 33-year-old Sheri Vazquez of Easton was speeding on Route 138 when she collided with the Masefields' vehicle as it attempted to turn.

Police say she ran from the scene but was caught a short time later.

Vazquez was arraigned Friday afternoon in Taunton District Court and was ordered held without bail.

The defendant is charged with leaving the scene resulting in death, two counts of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. More charges could be lodged as the investigation continued.

A dangerousness hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
