According to CNN via WCVB, a note was found in the boat with a message scribbled on it that reveals the bombers  motives.

A source says that the note says that they did the Marathon bombings as retribution for the US attacks on Muslims in Afghanistan. The note would go on to say that the victims were collateral damage, as many Muslims are during war.

The source also says that Tsarnaev told investigators those same details bedside in the hospital.

Those Boston marathon bombings were responsible for the deaths of three people, including a little boy. Over 200 others were wounded as a result, and many also lost limbs.
