He has remained the No. 1 talk radio host for over 30 years, but Rush Limbaugh often reminds us of why. Yesterday, the mega-talker pointed out what appears to be either an incredible mistake or a calculated admittance by the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Jim Sciutto's program on CNN.

CLAPPER: The message I'm getting from all this is, apparently what we were supposed to have done was to ignore the Russian interference, ignore the Russian meddling and the threat that it poses to us, and oh, by the way, blown off what the then commander in chief, President Obama, told us to do, which was to assemble all the reporting that we could that we had available to us and put it in one report that the president could pass on to the Congress and to the next administration. And while we're at it, declassify as much as we possibly could to make it public, and that's what we did...It's kind of disconcerting now to be investigated for, you know having done our duty and done what we were told to do by the president.

Something never admitted, in fact, denied by President Obama.

Now that Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan realize that Attorney General William Barr and famed District Attorney John Durham are not only investigating the events of the 2016 elections, but they are also investigating the actions taken by Clapper and Brennan themselves, they may be providing the escape hatch by letting President Obama fall on his own sword.

A former Director of National Intelligence doesn't schedule himself to make an appearance on CNN and not have a clear game plan as to what to say and not to say.

This is an enormous development which will expedite several things now. If President Trump was subjected to some elaborate setup, the play against it is in full swing.

Keep in mind former FBI Director James Comey's testimony when he spoke of the meeting he, Clapper and Brennan had with President Trump on June 6, 2017. Comey "showed" President Trump the Steele Dossier after he'd asked Clapper and Brennan to leave the room.

What Comey in fact showed President Trump was characterized as a reason to show him that while he may not like daily intel briefings, here is why he needs to have them. Comey provided an excerpt from a dossier not known yet to the president, one that accused Trump of hiring prostitutes in Russia in 2013 during the Miss Universe contest to pee on a bed once slept in by President Obama. Trump was quoted to have said, "Why are you showing me this? This is crazy. It's asinine, silly and a waste of my time."

That meeting ended with Comey next calling DNI Director Clapper, saying only, "Mission accomplished" (as per Comey's testimony).

Did Obama orchestrate that as well? This isn't Trump being paranoid, this is Clapper allowing the entertainment of such a scenario.

Technically, the FBI Director just showed the President of the United States the Steele Dossier. By reading a tabloid-worthy, incredible excerpt accusing him of orchestrating a "golden shower" on a bed stood over by prostitutes in 2013, Comey could now say the president was "shown" the file.

Now, Clapper could contact CNN and begin the legally reportable news.

News of a dossier funded by Trump's political opponent Hillary Clinton and whose funding was lied through omission to a FISA court judge by FBI Director Comey. The Steele Dossier, a document that Christopher Steele himself would not stand by under oath.

Have the popcorn ready. Expect subpoenas to fly out of the Justice Department next week.
