Rhode Island ‘Party Pizza’ Not Good Enough For Barstool’s Dave Portnoy
In a recent "One Bite" pizza review, Barstool Sports "El Presidente" Dave Portnoy made a shocking accusation about Rhode Island pizza.
While testing the pizza at D. Palmieri's Bakery, a well-known spot in Johnson for 60 years, Portnoy tried a pizza he didn't care for. It's an Ocean State staple locals have dubbed "party pizza." You've seen it: square slices, no cheese, all sauce and cold.
"This ain't my vibe," Portnoy said after trying it.
One bite. Everyone knows the rules. Here's how it all unfolded:
Party pizza isn't for everybody and that's OK. "If this is Providence food, then everyone's going hungry, that's what we got here," Portnoy said.
Portnoy scored the strip he tried a low 5.8 before giving the Palmieris a second chance with a slice of hot pizza.
He applauded the Palmieris for the crisp "undercarriage" and bar-style cheesy crust on the second slice. It got a 7.5.
Don't take it too hard, Providence.
