Dartmouth Selectboard Pushes To Help Small Businesses

The Dartmouth Selectboard is promising to take a pro-active step to reduce tax bills for  small businesses in Dartmouth and across the Commonwealth.

Selectboard member John George urged the board to support a new tax catagory for small businesses.  George says its unfair that small businesses are paying the same tax rate as large box stores...

Georges says box stores like Walmart and Lowes have the ability to pass on added costs to customers, while small businesses do not.

The board agreed to contact Rep. Chris Markey and Senator Mark Montigny and the Mass. Municipal Association about making a statewide change to help small businesses.

George fears that if nothing is done, small businesses will disappear.
