Santander Bank to Close Dartmouth Mall Branch
Santander is closing more bank branches, including the one at the Dartmouth Mall. What is going on here?
Santander is making it more difficult for customers who prefer to do business in person by closing dozens of branch banks throughout the Massachusetts and Rhode Island region.
I just got used to banking at the Dartmouth Mall location after the Ashley Boulevard branch closed, and now they are closing the mall branch, too.
In a letter to its customers, Santander said, "This was not a decision that we took lightly." Good, I'm not the only one upset over this.
The letter states, "As we move toward a digital era, we will continue to introduce safe and secure self-serve options on our mobile app and online banking."
As such, Santander says the Dartmouth Mall Branch "will be consolidating into our New Bedford - Lunds Corner Branch located at 2136 Acushnet Avenue."
The consolidation happens on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 4p.m.
Lunds Corner is 5.4 miles from the Dartmouth Mall; about an 11-minute drive. How is this in any way more convenient for me?
The Santander branch at 58 County Street in New Bedford will also close if it hasn't already closed. The bank announced in April that more than a dozen branch banks would close this summer.
I generally use my debit card for transactions, but often I need cash too, and having a nearby bank branch is convenient.
Santander invited me to use their ATMs on Main Road and State Road in Westport near where I live, but you cannot always withdraw the precise amount of cash you need in the denominations you desire.
