Several years ago, the people involved with the Dartmouth Cultural Center at the former Southworth Library building on Elm Street in South Dartmouth were excited about the project.

Interest was building for a community arts program in Dartmouth, donations were being collected, exhibits and programs were being scheduled. Then along came the COVID-19 pandemic and the building was forced to close.

"We were really worried, we thought this was the end," said Pauline Santos, President of the Cultural Center's Board of Directors.

The center however, did continue offering programs virtually, and received a small loan to keep going. As COVID has faded, the Dartmouth Cultural Center is again gearing up for a full schedule of activities, with new exhibits throughout the year.

There is no paid staff, and all of the work was done by volunteers.

"We have a great group of volunteers who worked very hard to make it successful," Santos said.

Santos was a guest this week on Townsquare Sunday, and said having people in the center again felt like a second grand opening.

The paintings of Westport artist Michael Walden will be displayed this month at the Dartmouth Cultural Center, and Santos is promising new exhibits every month featuring paintings, music, dance and more,
