We've ALL done it. Whether it's homemade, or the frozen dough you break off in squares, you've totally eaten raw cookie dough before it even had a chance to become a freshly-baked cookie. In fact, there have probably even been times when you prefer the raw dough over an actual cookie.

However, it's actually a really bad idea to eat any dough raw. According to the CDC, the raw dough can contain bacteria that cause diseases.

Flour is typically a raw agricultural product. This means it hasn’t been treated to kill germs like Escherichia coli (E. coli). Harmful germs can contaminate grain while it’s still in the field or at other steps as flour is produced. The bacteria are killed when food made with flour is cooked.

In addition to the dangers of raw flour, raw eggs can also contain a common germ called Salmonella. It can make you sick if the eggs are eaten raw or lightly cooked.

With all the recalls we've heard about E. coli and Salmonella lately, it's best that we don't give in to our temptations of eating raw cookie dough. But luckily for us, there are now two local ice cream shops that currently have EDIBLE COOKIE DOUGH available.

Acushnet Creamery:

And Dairy Maid Ice Cream in New Bedford:

Can I just say what we're all thinking? It's about time!
