The Friends of Buttonwood Park are continuing to raise money to install new basketball courts.

The initiative started early in 2012, when the Friends noticed the nearly unplayable conditions of the existing courts.

The Friends haven't raised the required $150,000 yet, but construction of three new courts is expected to begin in the spring.

Friends member Richard Leary tells WBSM's "More Than Just Talk" program, the City has already begun clearing the way for the work.

The courts will include new playing surfaces, hoops and backboards, lighting, bleachers and more.

A fundraiser for the initiative is coming up next week. Click here for more information.
