Commuters will be able to donate blood on a train in Boston to benefit local hospital patients.

Organizers say the train will be stopped at South Station for the Oct 24 event.

The Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company, which operates rail tracks under an MBTA contract, says the event will have a Halloween theme.

Officials say donations will benefit patients of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The train will be parked at the station's Track 8 throughout the event, and organizers recommend appointments for potential donors.
