NEW BEDFORD — A proposal to move an addiction treatment center in a west end neighborhood is one of only a few topics on the table for Thursday night’s City Council meeting.

The Council is expected to vote on a motion requesting the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods to meet with representatives of CleanSlate Addiction Treatment Center and their attorney to discuss outpatient services proposed at a former doctor’s office.

The motion further requests that area residents and those that signed a petition of opposition at the meeting that was held on October 5 at the Lawler Library also be invited.  Ward Five City Councilor Scott Lima ran the meeting and says the vast majority of those attending were against the facility, currently located at 92 Grape Street, moving to 52-54 Brigham Street.

The motion was submitted by Councilor At-Large Brian Gomes and is sponsored by Councilor At-Large Ian Abreu, Ward Five City Councilor Scott Lima and Council President Linda Morad.
