In one of nature's grandiose mysteries, the Brood-X cicadas will soon reappear this June, after spending 17 years underground.

The symbolism of the cicada is renewal and transformation. If 2021 is your "born again" year in personal endeavors or at work, you may want to consider crediting the cicada to create a personal symbol.

From insects to animals, objects and phrases, personal symbols are good to have because they tell people a little about themselves. You may have one already, like your astrological sign, favorite color or landscape or family crest. Personal symbols could include things like flags for countries and logos for business, and red roses for love and compassion.

Symbols take the form of sounds and visual images, like the ankh, which is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic representing the "key of life." But a creepy, scary-looking cicada for a personal symbol? Well, put some lipstick on it for starters.

I want to take you back to an earlier time in your life. Let's say you wanted to pursue a certain dream or take off for that other place, but never made good on it because life happened. Then it changed and morphed, and years later, your mothballed idea actually came to life, like the cicada.

Sometimes our lives lie dormant for years. Do you think you have a little cicada in you this year?
