Carver Man Killed After Driving Into Bog
CARVER — A 35-year-old Carver man has died after driving off a dirt road into a pond on Saturday night, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
Brendan McGaffigan was trapped in his pickup truck in the water near 7 Holmes St. on Saturday, the office stated in a release.
Carver police received a 911 call reporting a car in the water at around 7:49 p.m. Saturday.
According to the D.A.'s office, first responders arrived to find the male driver — the sole occcupant of the vehicle — unresponsive after people at the scene had taken him out of the truck.
The man, later identified as McGaffigan, was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene told authorities that the man had driven off the dirt road down an embankment into a pond, and the pickup truck landed upside down in the water, trapping him inside.
Investigators also noted that the area where the vehicle left the road appeared wet, muddy and narrow in places.
Carver and state police are continuing to investigate the crash.
