Car Fatally Crushes Toddler in Acushnet

A three-year-old girl is dead and a family left in mourning after a tragic accident in Acushnet Tuesday.

Acushnet Police Chief Michael Alves said in a press release the accident occurred shortly before noon Tuesday on Jean Street as the girl's father was making repairs to a vehicle. According to the release, the car rolled from it's position and crushed the girl.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The father was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.

Acushnet officials and State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office are investigating the accident.

The child and family members have not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
