Cape Cod Tourism Set to Soar With American Airlines Expansion
Traveling may become a little easier this summer for out-of-state residents looking to explore the beautiful island of Cape Cod.
On Wednesday, American Airlines touched down for the first time at Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, embarking on a new future that will provide seasonal access to Cape Cod throughout the summer.
This news follows the airline's announcement last fall that it is expanding flights from New York LaGuardia Airport and Washington Reagan National Airport.
More than 80 destinations across North America will have access to the coastal destination, and the airline will serve as the airport's only global network.
As Massachusetts residents, it's easy to take for granted the access we have to explore Cape Cod. For those of us on the SouthCoast, it's right in our backyard, while others only have to drive an hour or more to experience it.
It's an easier distance to overcome than those coming from out of state. With Cape Cod's new airport expansion, a convenient option will now be available for those out-of-state friends and family.
The introduction of these new flights is not just a boom for Cape Cod's tourism economy but also a huge benefit for residents, eliminating the need to travel to Boston or Providence for connections.
According to an American Airlines, seasonal daily service from Cape Cod Gateway Airport to Washington Reagan National Airport begins on June 22. Flights to Martha's Vineyard will also be available from New York.
"American continues to build a network that gives customers the most comprehensive access to the places they want to visit," said Brian Znotins, American's Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning.
"New service to Hyannis, expanded service from New York, and more international service grows the largest global network in the United States, connecting more cities than any other U.S. carrier, for a summer like no other," he said.
As one of the most popular tourist attractions and spots for a quick summer getaway, more people can now get a little taste of what it has to offer.
