Representative Antonio F. D. Cabral (D-New Bedford) was reappointed today Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets.

“I am honored to have been appointed as Chair of this important committee,” stated Rep. Cabral. “It gives me the opportunity to continue to lead the fight for critical projects for New Bedford such as South Coast Rail.”

As Chairman of the House Bonding Committee, Rep. Cabral will continue to oversee the capital budget, capital planning and bond legislation to finance the construction of infrastructure projects throughout the state. During past sessions, the Committee worked on key legislation authorizing billions of state dollars to fund projects including local road maintenance with Chapter 90 funds. He has fought to make sure that the bond-related legislation acted on by the Committee is regionally equitable, ensuring that the City of New Bedford and the South Coast region get their fair share of money for vital capital projects.

Rep. Cabral will also lead capital oversight hearings designed to assess the capital budget, promote fiscal responsibility and ensure government transparency.

“I understand the tremendous infrastructure needs that we have here in New Bedford, the South Coast and throughout the entire Commonwealth,” said Rep. Cabral. “As Chairman, I will continue to fight for projects that improve our quality of life and boost our economy.”
