New Bedford Inclusive Tee Ball League Brings Heartwarming Start to Summer
Opening day for Brayson's Buddies Summer Tee Ball League in New Bedford was nothing short of magical.
It was a hot summer day on Monday, June 23 at Dias Field off Nauset Street and Mt. Pleasant Street, as the all-inclusive league welcomed kids and teens of all ages with special needs, giving them a chance to experience the joy of baseball in a way that felt safe, supportive, and most importantly, fun.

The New Bedford Police Department and GrandMa’s Donuts staff were on hand to hand out t-shirts and hats to the kids, with each shirt featuring a sponsored business name on the back to sort players into their teams. From the very first swing of the bat to the cheers coming from the sidelines, the field was filled with laughter, encouragement and that contagious feeling of pure childhood happiness.
"Hi, Coach Gazelle!" one of the kids shouted as he waved at me from third base, and my heart instantly grew 10 sizes larger.

Whether players were stepping up to the plate or taking their positions out in the field, every moment was a reminder of what sports are truly about: finding their confidence and coming together as a community.
Brayson's Buddies is more than just a game.
It’s a carefully crafted space where kids can slowly and comfortably dip their toes into the world of sports, learn valuable life lessons, and make new friends along the way. The league focuses on building confidence and celebrating every effort, no matter how big or small.
While registration for this season is closed, the public is encouraged to come out and support the players. Every cheer, clap and smile from the stands helps fuel the momentum and reminds these incredible athletes that they are seen, supported and celebrated.
In a world that often moves too fast, Brayson's Buddies is a beautiful reminder of the power of slowing down and showing up for each other.
It’s not just about baseball. It’s about belonging.
