NEW BEDFORD - If you're headed to Fenway Park tonight, keep an eye out for some familiar faces.

Members of the 2017 Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech Bears champion baseball team will be recognized before the Red Sox game against the Houston Astros.

The 2017 Bears clinched the Division 2 State Championship in June, defeating Danvers 6-2.

Head Coach Rick Avila tells WBSM News last year's successful season came together because of the close comradery between the players.

"They all hung out together. They worked hard," said Avila. "We just got better at the end of the season. They really helped us out with the playing of the game because they all got along. They were great. A great group of kids."

Avila says as a Voc-Tech graduate himself, he was proud to help make history for his alma-mater.

"I believe in the school. The school has given me everything I own in life today. It's a great accomplishment for our school and for the kids of our school."

Many of the students are currently attending their freshman year of college, with most attending tonight's ceremony at Fenway to be honored by the Boston Red Sox.

The championship marked the first state title Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech has won for any sport in the school's 107 year history.

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. tonight on the field at Fenway Park.
