Authorities Identify New Bedford Stabbing Death Victim
NEW BEDFORD — The victim of the apparent homicide in New Bedford has been identified as Robert Jones III.
Jones, a homeless man, appears to have been living in a homeless encampment in the woods behind General Supply and Metals, Inc. His body was located at 47 Nauset Street, early Thursday night by two other homeless men who reported the death to police.
With the assistance of the New Bedford Fire Department, the body was removed from the heavily vegetated area between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Thursday night, and is now in the custody of the state Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death will be conducted.
The investigation into the apparent homicide is being coordinated by First Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg.
New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Homicide Unit Prosecutors are actively investigating the homicide.
