The area's legislative delegation wants to see more state money spent on dredging New Bedford Harbor.

Rep. Antonio Cabral, Senator Mark Montigny and others sent a letter to the Baker Administration on Thursday, urging that it loosen the purse-strings and free up funding for dredging.

Lawmakers say a legislative committee in 2014 authorized $100 million for dredging in Boston and New Bedford Harbors. But while work has started in Boston, the delegation says New Bedford Harbor remains untouched.

Officials say additional dredging in New Bedford will expand shipping opportunities in the Port.

Senator Montigny says "the dredging is crucial to the region's success, and must not take a back seat to Boston or Beacon Hill politics."

The legislators are also seeking an update on the status of the dredging project.
