Apparent Suicide in New Bedford Police Headquarters Parking Lot

NEW BEDFORD - The Bristol County District Attorney's Office is investigating an apparent suicide that took place in the parking lot of the New Bedford Police Department headquarters.

According to police documents, the incident was reported at 11:09 p.m. on Wednesday at the Police Department's headquarters at 871 Rockdale Avenue in New Bedford. Police logs list the incident as a suicide.

The D.A.'s Office has identified the victim as a 29-year-old male from New Bedford. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.

Lt. Ricard Rezendes, spokesman for the New Bedford Police Department, declined to comment on the incident.

Scanner reports indicate the victim was in a vehicle when he was discovered, and that the death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
