If you were going to make a list of words to describe Chance, "shy" and "reserved" are never going to make it. Chance is a kid who knows what he wants. He emanates confidence and conviction, and is one of the most likable kids you'd ever want to meet.

Chance's Interests

Chance loves to play basketball. In fact, he says with a laugh, "People try to leave me alone when I play (basketball) because they know they're going to get their butts kicked."

He loves to build things with Legos and use his imagination. In the summer, he loves to go to water parks or just swim in a backyard pool, but he is also very happy with freeform outdoor play or chilling out with some video games.

He's also a solid student.

"I'm a really smart kid that likes to read," says Chance.

He is a very engaging young man with a great sense of humor. His therapist describes him as bright, talkative and outgoing.

A Good Family Match for Chance

Legally freed for adoption, Chance would like his new home to have at least one mom. He wants to live where he would be the only or youngest child by a few years. He will need guidance, love, structure, routine and firm boundaries in his new family.  There is an open adoption agreement set by the court stating that Chance's birth mom, who lives out of state, should receive letters and photos periodically throughout the years if it's in Chance's best interest.

Who Can Adopt?

If you’re at least 18 years old, have a stable source of income and have room in your heart, you may be a perfect match to adopt a waiting child. Adoptive parents can be single, married or partnered; experienced or not; renters or homeowners; LGBTQ+ singles and couples. As an adoptive parent, you won’t have to pay any fees. Adoption from foster care is completely free in Massachusetts.

The process to adopt a child from foster care includes training, interviews and home visits to determine if adoption is right for you. These steps will help match you with a child or sibling group that will be a good fit.

To learn more about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at (617) 964-6273 or visit www.mareinc.org. Start the process today and give a waiting child a permanent place to call home.
