Acushnet Teens Start Trash Bin Cleaning Business to Make Summer Cash
There’s something to admire about hard work, especially when it comes from a couple of kids just trying to earn a few extra bucks.
Two Acushnet teens are proving that hard work and determination can still go a long way.
Thirteen-year-olds Ryder White and Carter Sumner have started a small neighborhood business cleaning trash and recycling bins, calling it “Bin Bath.”
A New Business Was Born
It all started with their very first customer, Peter Benoit, who shared a glowing review on social media:
“I just had 2 kids (Ryder and Carter) come up to the house and offered to wash my trash bins for a fee. Normally, I wouldn’t have said yes, but I appreciate a couple of young kids willing to work to earn money. And truthfully, my bins needed it. Thirty minutes later, the bins were immaculate and smelled great! Other than being their very first customer, I have no association to these kids, but I appreciate their work ethic. If you’re in the northern part of Acushnet and need your bins cleaned, give these kids a chance!”
The boys later swung by Benoit’s house to thank him for the kind words.
“I told them there were a bunch of people on that post interested, and that they’re going to be making some money all because they took the initiative,” Benoit said.
Intrigued by White and Sumner's hustle, I reached out to get the scoop on their new pop-up business.

Bikes, a Power Washer, and a Lot of Hustle
Ryder explained how the business began during his summer break from Ford Middle School:
“We’re just going around the neighborhood asking if people want their trash and recycling bins cleaned,” he said. "We’re using a power washer and soap, and when we’re done, they smell brand new.”
The boys ride their bicycles door-to-door, pulling a wagon loaded with their power washer. Charging $10 to $15 per bin, they’re hoping to save up some extra money this summer.
When asked what message he wanted to share with others, Ryder kept it simple:
“Work hard," he said.
